The NSW Government has launched the NSW Plastics: The Way Forward action paper which sets out proposed actions to tackle unnecessary and problematic plastics and the timeframes for implementation.

Proposed actions and timeframes are presented under three key themes:

  • reducing plastic litter
  • reducing harmful chemicals in plastics and microplastics and
  • keeping pace on plastics action.

This action paper has been developed based on input from stakeholders and the community, including feedback during our consultation from October 2023 to February 2024.

We are now seeking feedback from community, industry, business and all interested stakeholders on:

  • the potential benefits and risks associated with the proposed actions
  • considerations for the implementation of their proposed actions (including on their scope, timeframes, definitions, and exemptions)
  • alternative options that should be considered by the NSW Government.
